Tampa Bay Buccaneers fire Lovie Smith

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have done it again. Looked at class and success and decided to go a different direction.

Buccaneers co-chairman Joel Glazer said in a statement “I want to thank Lovie for his hard work and dedication to the Buccaneers during his time here.”

That’s right, The Buccaneers have terminated head coach Lovie Smith.

Lovie was 8 – 24 in his two-year but was 6 – 10 this season with rookie Jameis Winston at quarterback.

The Bucs seemed to be going in the right direction as they were fifth in the league in total offense and tenth in total defense.

Not only was Winston a beacon of light but running back Doug Martin was second in the NFL for the rushing title.

Two things stand out in this situation that shows the Buccaneers are struggling to find any true direction.

First, whomever is hired as head coach, all fingers are pointing to Dirk Koetter, they will be the fourth since 2009.

Second, your class shows when you fire a coach over the phone. He wasn’t hired over the phone, so he deserved not to be fired that way.
