Report: Darnell Dockett “expected” to make decision on Wednesday

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Darnell Dockett is very close to deciding on where he’ll play football next season.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Dockett is “expected” to decide on Wednesday between the San Francisco 49ers and the Arizona Cardinals. In another twist, it seems that the rest of the NFC West are making a last second run at Dockett. Schefter also mentioned the Seattle Seahawks and St. Louis Rams as interested parties in the Dockett sweepstakes.
The Cardinals let Dockett go last Friday, freeing up $6.8 million in salary cap space. He was going to count $9.8 million against the cap for 2015 and the Cardinals weren’t comfortable with that number. They reportedly offered him a one-year, $2.5 million deal, which could go to $4 million with incentives.
Because the Cardinals released Dockett, he’s free to sign with another team immediately, hence Dockett apparently coming to such a quick decision.
Teams are allowed to begin contacting agents and negotiating contracts with unrestricted free agents on Saturday, but the free agency period officially begins on March 10. That’s the day when deals can be finalized and players can sign on the dotted line.
