Nets welcome Steve Nash as their new Head Coach
Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai and general manager Sean Marks were looking for a head coach that was innovative, a leader and someone who has a strong relationship with Kevin Durant. So the Nets looked no further than Marks old teammate with the Phoenix Suns Steve Nash.
”In Steve we see a leader, communicator and mentor who will garner the respect of our players. I have had the privilege to know Steve for many years. One of the great on-court leaders in our game, I have witnessed first hand his basketball acumen and selfless approach to prioritize team success.” Marks went on “His instincts for the game, combined with an inherent ability to communicate with and unite players towards a common goal, will prepare us to compete at the highest levels of the league.”
The Nets job was considered to be one of the top open coaching jobs in the NBA as they will be looking to get back Durant, last year’s top free agent signing, off Achilles surgery as well as point guard Kyrie Irving who is coming off season ending surgery.
Nash, who built a relationship with Durant in his consulting role with the Golden State Warriors, is finally ready to take a head coaching job after being wooed on several occasions by other teams.
“I am honored to have this opportunity with such a first-class organization and would like to thank Sean, Joe and his wife, Clara, for having faith in my ability to lead this team forward.” Nash said in a statement, “Coaching is something I knew I wanted to pursue when the time was right, and I am humbled to be able to work with the outstanding group of players and staff we have here in Brooklyn. I am as excited about the prospects of the team on the court as I am about moving to Brooklyn with my family and becoming impactful members of this community.”
Although Nash has no experience as a head coach or front office management, it is well believed that the Hall of Fame guards ability to communicate and his ingenuity will be perfect for this job.
