NBA News and Notes… 02-08-2012

NBA News and Notes:

Story #1

Kobe Bryant passes Shaquille O’Neal to become the 5th leading scorer in NBA history. The talk has been who is the greatest Los Angeles Laker of all-time? This comes down to point of view more than anything. I say let’s save this argument until Kobe retires because he’s still writing his story.

Story #2

Paul Pierce passes Larry Bird on the Boston Celtics all-time scoring list trailing only John Havlicek as the Celtics all-time leading scorer. The problem is there are roughly 4500 points in between the two, so I don’t think Pierce have enough years left to catch Havlicek.

Story #3

Kevin Love goes WWE on Luis Scola and steps on his face. Love was suspended 2 games for his actions.

More News and Notes:

*Look for Darko Milicic to lose his starting job soon to Nikola Pekovic. Pekovic has had a double/double 4 times in his last 5 games where Milicic has not been special since Europe years ago.

*Chauncey Billups is done for the year after rupturing his left Achilles. Is this the last we’ve seen of Billups and if so is he Hall of Fame bound?

Power Rankings (Top 5):

1. Oklahoma City Thunder                                          (20 – 5)
2. Miami Heat                                                           (19 – 6)
3. Chicago Bulls                                                        (21 – 6)
4. Philadelphia 76ers                                                 (18 – 7)
5. Indiana Pacers                                                      (17 – 7)
