“Jerry Maguire” comes clean

Addiction: compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance (as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol) characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal; broadly : persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful.

Leigh Steinberg has been one of sports “super” agents since the 80’s.  Primarily representing football players, at one point, Steinberg was so powerful in his line of work, there was a movie based off of him titled “Jerry Maguire” starring some guy you might of heard of – Tom Cruise.

But somewhere down the line, his name started dissappearing from the headlines and so did his clients.  Names like Drew Rosenhaus and Tom Condon started taking over.  But why?

The answer is alcoholism.  Steinberg recently filed for bankruptcy and instead of giving excuses and hiding under a rock, he wrote an article that was posted on Yahoo! explaining his actions, taking accountablity and coming clean with an addiction that probably thought would help out for a night, but turned into a nightmare costing him everything.

Yes, people can say whatever they want about how shady agents can be and there may be merit to that, but give Steinberg credit for coming forward like a man.  I though you guys might enjoy a break from the normal sports talk and dive into a story that is different … from the other side of the sport.  Attatched below is a link to Mr. Steinberg’s article and I hope you enjoy.
