Dbacks pounce Cubs 6 – 1

Phoenix – Arizona

The Arizona Diamondbacks started their game out against the Chicago Cubs tonight with speculations as their starting pitcher, Joe Saunders, was a late scratch for Josh Collmenter. The Diamondbacks stated that Saunders could not get loose for his start.

After the game Saunders said he just could not get loose and was unable to go. He stated “that it never happened in his career” we went on “it wasn’t painful it was just tight”.

None of that sidetracked the Diamondbacks performance against the Cubs. The Diamondbacks used a total of five pitchers and beat the Cubs 6 – 1.

Brad Ziegler got the win and David Hernandez the save. The win got the Diamondbacks to 500% (35 – 35) and gave them a winning record at home.

The Diamondbacks trailed 1 – 0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning following a solo home run by Cubs catcher Giovany Soto, but they struck for 2 runs to take a 2 – 1 lead when Jason Kubel crushed a ball to left center field following a Justin Upton single.

From there, the Diamondbacks scored an additional run in the fifth inning on a 2-out, 2-strike single by Aaron Hill that scored Ziegler.

The Diamondbacks did not stop there as they put two more runs on the board in the sixth when Miguel Montero tripled to right field scoring Jason Kubel and Paul Goldschmidt.

And in the bottom of the seventh, the Diamondbacks struck again when slugger Justin Upton, who went 2 – 4, hit a ground rule double that scored Bloomquist. This was a manufactured run as Bloomquist singled and took second on a deep fly ball by Hill. And with that, the Diamondbacks secured the victory.

Upton stated “As a team they were not happy how they were playing so as a team they turned it up a notch”.

This is good news for the Diamondbacks as they have a real chance to improve their record this weekend against the struggling Cubs. If their bats stay hot like they have the last four games, look for the Diamondbacks to end this series two games over 500% and in the wildcard playoff race.
