Cardinals sign Jonte Green; release Damond Smith

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Arizona Cardinals did a little switching around jersey number 42 on Tuesday, taking it from cornerback Damond Smith, and giving it to cornerback Jonte Green.

Green (6-0, 184) has played in 24 career games (seven starts) since he came in the NFL with the Detroit Lions as a sixth-round selection (196th overall) in the 2012 NFL Draft out of New Mexico State. Green played in 15 games (five starts) in his rookie season with the Lions and had 23 tackles and one interception. In his second season, Green played in nine games (two starts) and had six tackles. He was released by Detroit last season and moved onto the Buffalo Bills in 2015 before his release on April 25.

Green took part in the Cardinals rookie minicamp following the NFL Draft on a tryout.
