ASU came to play 37 – 35 over Oregon
On Monday, the ASU Sun Devils football team will resume practice for a road game in Palo Alto against a very physical Stanford football program.
This off course follows a hard fought victory against the #24 ranked Oregon Ducks, that saw ASU let a 17 – 7 lead slip away only to comeback to win 37 – 35 on a late 41-yard field goal by Freshman Brandon Ruiz.
“I see a team that’s hungry, I see when look into (freshman cornerback) Chase Lucas eyes I see that dog in him right now, when I look into the offensive lines eyes their ready,” said quarterback MannyWilkins after the game.
Wilkins who threw for 347 yards on 24 of 39 with one touchdown and added 35 rushing yards and two more touchdowns, went on to say. “When you lose their will be negative talk and when you win there will be positive talk, (but) you have to block all that out.”
Coach Todd Graham, “We have a single minded focus. It’s about us adapting, keep learning and block out the noise. We have a lot of character.” He said , “We’re 1 – 0 and I’m pretty excited.” When talking about conference play.
Graham also said “We needed a big win like this.”
This was a complete game for ASU from beginning to end. They tackled well, limited the number of plays by Oregon by keeping them off the field with a solid running game and getting them off the field with big defensive stops.
This was also the first time Damario Richard was healthy since game one. And as he stated on media day he will try to help this team make a difference.
After the game he said to me, “I’m back”. Yes sir, you are.
