Arizona Cardinals should draft Boise State tight end Jake Roh

The Arizona Cardinals got their quarterbacks through the free agent market. Now they need to get some weapons for them and the NFL Draft is a good place to get them. Boise State tight end Jake Roh is a local prospect from Scottsdale who can contribute to the hometown team.

Roh grew up in a competitive household in which his entire family played sports at some level. He was taught throughout his upbringing that you can always control how hard you work so you should always do that to your best ability no matter what.

“You always have to compete and having a passion for competition,” Roh said. “Having that competitive culture growing up translates to the environment that football creates. If you don’t work very hard than you will probably not last very long in this sport.”

Roh began playing football in the third grade and was hooked on it from that moment on. He is a local product who played linebacker and tight end at Chaparral High School for head coach Dave Huffine. In his senior season Roh caught 72 passes for 805 yards and 13 touchdowns, and recorded 72 tackles, four sacks and four interceptions.

Roh joined the Boise State Broncos team in 2013 but redshirted all season. His first impression of the Broncos was a team that had a chip on their shoulder. The program was built on that mentality and the culture that they have been able to instill even after head coach Chris Peterson left for Washington stood out the most to Roh.

Roh said his favorite on-field memory at Boise State was winning the Mountain West Conference championship. The Broncos were able to pull that off during his redshirt freshman and senior season. Boise State defeated the Arizona Wildcats in the Fiesta Bowl during Roh’s redshirt freshman season.

Roh was on the Mackey Award Watch List twice during his junior and senior season. He was named All-Mountain West Honorable Mention in 2014 and All-Mountain West Second Team in 2015. Roh sees himself as a tight end similar to former Houston Texan Owen Daniels.

“He is crafty and has a great ability to find ways to get open and make blocks,” Roh said.
